The first set of Spring 2021 Starfish Progress Surveys launched on Monday, February 8, and are due by Sunday, February 28. Completing your Progress Surveys continues to be the easiest and quickest way to provide student feedback and referrals. However, you may raise a flag or kudo at any point in the semester through Starfish. Once you raise a flag for one of your students, their assigned advisor will reach out to the student and offer support.
Last fall, students continued to adjust to the online learning environment:
- Overall course success rate (C or higher) was down 2.5% as compared to Fall 2019.
- Although there was a 5% increase in A’s…..there was also a 4% increase in F’s among the distribution of grades.
As this semester gets underway, partnering with Advising Services and the Academic Support Centers for proactive support of students is more important than ever.
What happens when you raise a Flag?
The assigned advisor attempts to reach the student by phone and email to address concerns and provide support and referrals. If the advisor is successful in reaching the student, the advisor will offer support via email, and encourage a virtual appointment. Students can meet with their assigned advisor virtually by either scheduling directly from the Student Portal, or by calling the Advising Services Center at 847.925.6220.
What types of concerns do advisors address?
If a student in your course has missed several assignments, missed more than one class, or is not engaging on Blackboard, the advisor can offer guidance about time management, can assess academic and non-academic needs and make the appropriate referrals to Counseling Services, Hawks Care, or Success Services as needed.
