ReadSpeaker, a text-to-speech technology, is now available as a new tool in Blackboard. The ReadSpeaker Suite of Learning Tools instantly creates an audio version of course content in line with Universal Design for Learning concepts. This means that students will have the option to listen to their course materials (including tests!) instead of reading them, which can be especially helpful for those who have reading or learning difficulties. Additionally, any student can benefit from using this tool.

You can incorporate this tool into your teaching in the following ways:

  • Introduce ReadSpeaker during your class session and highlight its benefits to your students.
  • Share this video tutorial with your students that demonstrates how to use ReadSpeaker.
  • Include information about ReadSpeaker in your course announcements.
  • Encourage your students to try ReadSpeaker and provide them with instructions on how to access it.

Here are some resources you can share with students on the benefits of ReadSpeaker and how to use it:

If your students need additional assistance using ReadSpeaker, direct them to these WebReader and DocReader help videos on the ReadSpeaker YouTube page or have them contact the Student Service Desk.
