Submitted by Mike Vanlandingham, Student Conduct Officer and HEAT Chair

While many of us continue to work from off-campus this fall semester, the Harper Early Alert Team, or HEAT, and Student Conduct team continue to meet and work to assist Harper employees, students and the greater Harper College community with guidance and responses to incidents of concern and possible violations of the Code of Conduct.

Even though we may be working remotely, the teams are communicating through virtual and other web-based means and still providing follow-up to referrals within the same timeframes as if we were all on campus. If you experience a work or classroom incident, a situation of non-compliance (such as not adhering to campus mask or other safety protocols), or communication that you find concerning, be it in person or through web tools such as Blackboard or email, you should report the incident to HEAT and out teams will provide follow-up to make sure that Harper’s learning environment stays safe and accessible.

The best way to contact our teams is through the online referral form, which can be found on the HEAT webpage.

Additionally, both the HEAT and Student Conduct websites contain several helpful resources for faculty members that may help provide additional guide when facing a concerning or difficult situation. You can find those and other resources through the Student Conduct webpage.

If you have questions about a referral or process please don’t hesitate to reach out and contact me, and I’d be happy to answer your questions and assist you. I can best be reached by email at mvanland@harpercollege.edu or by phone, 847.925.6898.

Let’s work to make this another great semester at Harper College!
