Grants Available for Faculty and Staff

A 2019-2020 RFE grant provided funding for leveled books to use in the ESL Reading classes and the reading software Active Reading for the Language Lab. This multilevel, multidimensional approach to ESL reading offers alternative learning opportunities for the students who prefer a learning style different from a traditional one. Expanding the choice of instructional materials and technology used in ESL Reading classes, and maintaining a leveled reading library assures that Harper is at the forefront of innovation and thus committed to providing optimal and diverse educational opportunities for the students.

Have an idea for a new project? Want to develop or pilot a program or service, but lack the funding to support it? The Harper College Educational Foundation has up to $100,000 available through the Resource for Excellence (RFE) grant program which could be the answer to those questions. The RFE grants are an excellent way to develop, implement, and evaluate creative and innovative ideas and activities.

The RFE Grant Application Period is open until Friday, March 6. Funds for this annual cycle will be available for use on July 1, 2020, and must be spent by June 30, 2021.

The proposed project should incorporate invention, creativity, and/or originality. The objectives of the project must be clearly illustrated through ideation, resourcefulness, and collaborations, and catalyze the improvement, enhancement, or expansion of programs or services that ultimately support Harper’s mission, and one or more of the emerging themes identified in the strategic planning process. RFE grants can provide funding for yearly projects (for a maximum of three years) or one-time events.

RFE Grant Application workshops are being offered to help potential applicants with completing the grant application package. The next one is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2020 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Building L, Room L201. The workshops provide an opportunity to learn more about the RFE program process, review updates to the RFE Application, Guidelines, and Grading Rubric, and gain insight into writing a successful application.

All application documents and important dates are provided on the Grants Department HIP page.
