Building a positive classroom culture can be tough, especially given the anxiety and stress that has come about from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

Bring your class to the Library’s makerspace (called The Make Shop), and encourage your students to build relationships with each other while also completing their course work.

Instead of assigning a paper or speech, consider assigning students a hands-on project where they can show what they’ve learned in a new way. Have students select and make an educational tool or object that can be used within your class. Or sign up for a team-building activity where you and the Make Shop librarians design a class project that results in your students feeling confident and assured that they can succeed in your course.

Feel free to stop by during the Make Shop’s open hours, which are Tuesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Thursdays from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and check out the space. Contact the Make Shop librarians at makeshop@harpercollege.edu with any questions.
