On Friday, September 30 the Learning Assessment Committee and the Academy for Teaching Excellence held the 14th Annual Harper College Assessment Conference and Share Fair.

More than 60 faculty and staff attended the in-person conference. The event focused on re-engaging and sharing assessment strategies and best practices, including the keynote address, “Reset to Re-engage: Assessment for Community Building” by Dr. Natasha Jankowski.

In her keynote presentation, Dr. Jankowski took time to pause and reflect on the past few years of the pandemic learning and what that means for incoming and returning students. She talked about the different lenses of assessment that can help refresh and reset how we engage with students and their learning. Dr. Jankowski presented a way forward for conducting assessment that ensures equity and excellence in support of students without overburdening faculty and staff. Her workshop, “Assignment Design for Student Learning and Success” engaged participants in an assignment charrette where participants come together to revamp or revise an assignment and they share resources, ideas, and ways to re-engage with students in their learning through assignments and related activities.

Dr. Jankowski’s latest book, Reframing Assessment to Center Equity, can be checked out from the Harper College Library! The Conference also included poster presentations and breakout sessions.
