On April 27, 2022, a plaque to honor our late colleague Elke Weinbrenner was unveiled in Harper’s Cultural Center in Building D after a ceremony took place in the common area below. Artifacts and photographs representing just a few of the activities Elke was involved in were displayed in the Center for viewing after speeches from colleagues and students reminded us of her lasting efforts to make Harper a welcoming and inclusive space.

Several colleagues remarked on how she always brought such a strong sense of purpose and caring to campus events, including her Dean, Jaime Riewerts, who was among those speaking at the event and remarked that “she always showed up to make a difference.”

Elke is deeply missed but will always be remembered as her legacy lives on in many ways, particularly in the work centered on equity and inclusion.
