Dr. Ali identified and discussed some ethic and racial incidents of violent extremist in Pakistan based on ideology and identity and school shootings in the U.S. to draw similarities and differences between the two countries. In conclusion, Dr. Ali focused on research, teaching, curriculum, and global collaborations and gave empirical evidence to show how non state actors such as poetry, writing, and education have been used as forms of resistance against the violent extremism in Pakistan to counter conflict and violence among youth and show how intercultural collaborations to address these issues are powerful.

The Office of International Education and the Teaching for Equity Community of Practice identified terms from Dr. Ali’s talk related to violent extremism to add to the Equity Literacy Project, a growing lexicon of equity-related terms available as an Open Educational Resource.
