8 a.m. – 8:45 a.m. Poster Session and Breakfast
Engage at each of the poster presentations to earn (sticker) medals and raffle tickets! Collect 10 medals throughout the day to complete the decathlon, increasing your chance to take home the gold! (raffle prizes)
8:45 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Keynote address, “Metacognition: The Key to Improving Outcomes Assessment Results”
Dr. Saundra McGuire, accomplished speaker; presented on the topic of “metacognitive learning strategies to help students succeed” at over 400 institutions in 46 states and nine countries; recipient of the coveted Clark Distinguished Teaching Award from Cornell University; Director Emerita of the Center for Academic Success and retired Assistant Vice Chancellor and Professor of Chemistry at Louisiana State University.

- “Mind the Gap! A Case Study of the Use of Professional Development to Improve Outcomes in Introduction to Philosophy (PHI 105)” presented by Brett Fulkerson-Smith, Philosophy
- “What can CCSSE Tell Us About Student Learning?” presented by Kathy Coy, Institutional Research; Julie Ellefson, Chemistry; and Darlene Schlenbecker, Planning and Institutional Effectiveness
- “‘We Get the Job Done’ – Using Popular Culture to Address Diversity” presented by Amanda Smothers, English
11:35 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. Breakout Sessions 2 (45 minutes each)
Attendees may choose which breakout session to attend:
- “Increasing Student Motivation: Strategies That Work” presented by Saundra McGuire, Keynote Speaker
- “Panel Discussion: Improving General Education Skills Across the Curriculum” with Harper College Faculty
- “Stairway to Assessment” presented by Robert Allare, History
12:20 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. Raffle
Attendees will earn raffle tickets by visiting posters from 8-8:45 a.m. and by attending sessions throughout the day. Complete the decathlon to earn an additional chance to win! Raffle prize winners will be drawn beginning at 12:20 p.m. Ticket holders must be present to win!
