In a Fall 2017 Faculty/Staff Orientation Week event on August 16, Trgyve Thoreson, retired Harper English professor and author of Harper College: The First 50 Years, presented about the history of the faculty experience at Harper with a special focus on the formation and work of the Faculty Senate. There were approximately 34 faculty and staff in attendance.

Trgyve offered a look at key moments in the faculty contribution to Harper, beginning with the first set of faculty who worked at the college and up to the strike of 2002. Thoreson’s presentation included excerpts from video interviews conducted as part of his research. The end of the session concluded with ideas for infusing the book into courses by suggesting chapters that touch on race, gender, political, and national events.

A limited number of hardcover books are available. Visit Harper College, Building L, Room L255 during normal business hours; limit of one book per person.
