The Open Educational Resources (OER) movement has been rapidly gaining momentum, as faculty across the country discover the plethora of free, high-quality resources available to them online. Whether OER materials are used to supplement existing course content, or are aggregated and used as a complete replacement for a traditional program, the OER movement has become a big deal indeed.
Some of the most popular sites for high quality open educational resources include:
- OER Commons, widely held as one of the best OER search aggregators
- MERLOT II, California’s OER repository
- Creative Commons, a good source for items of all types of multimedia
- MIT Open Courseware online textbooks, particularly useful for science and engineering courses
- Lumen Learning, providing complete open courses
In addition, you will find helpful suggestions and ideas from the Community College Consortium, a clearinghouse for information, resources, project ideas, and networking to support OER.
