Jack Kerouac’s On the Road
April 12 @ 12:30 pm - 1:45 pm
Celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road with the first of three events.
After relaxing with the novel over Spring Break, join Dr. Kurt Hemmer (Harper’s resident Kerouac expert) in class. In addition to participating in a discussion of the novel, faculty can also observe Dr. Hemmer teach its major themes to his students. This session is perfect for faculty interested in merely discussing a literary phenomenon or also adopting the text for use in class next fall.
- Wednesday, April 26: Tim Hunt, the preeminent Jack Kerouac scholar in the United States, will give a presentation on the significance of the novel 60 years after its publication.
- Thursday, April 27: 12th Annual Great Books Intercollegiate Student Symposium
In addition to these three events, there will be a display from Professor Kurt Hemmer’s collection of Jack Kerouac books in the front window of the HarperStore (bookstore) beginning on March 27.
